Palestine refugees face acute and growing needs as a result of the crisis in Syria. Unique in their vulnerability and disproportionately affected by the raging conflict, they rely on UNRWA support to meet these needs.
UNRWA is grateful for the generous assistance received from donors in 2014, which allowed the Agency to provide vital humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected Palestine refugees across Syria. This included, for the first time, localized recovery activities, such as the reconstruction of UNRWA schools in Qabr Essit and Neirab camps, which have become important symbols of hope for the wider community. UNRWA continued to support the humanitarian needs of over 460,000 profoundly vulnerable Palestine refugees with cash, food, water, shelter, health, emergency education and other forms of assistance.
Despite the generous assistance received from donors, the UNRWA Appeal for 2014 was only 50 per cent funded, requiring reductions in humanitarian assistance and essential services provided to Palestine refugees. With contributions declining, essential services such as health and education are under increasing threat. Sustained and increased commitments from international donors are urgently required to ensure UNRWA maintains its much-needed support to Palestine refugees throughout 2015.
In 2015, UNRWA requires US$ 415.4 million to meet the minimum needs of Palestine refugees affected by the Syria crisis in the region.

UNRWA and Palestine refugees offer heartfelt thanks to you, our donors, for your unparalleled generosity in responding to the crisis in Syria. This generosity has allowed UNRWA to provide a critical lifeline to the growing number of Palestine refugees in desperate need of humanitarian assistance. In 2014, UNRWA donors allowed the Agency to provide humanitarian aid, including cash, food and other critical items, to over 460,000 Palestine refugees in Syria.
As the conflict approaches its fourth anniversary, the resilience of Palestine refugees in Syria is at breaking point. As we express our gratitude, we renew our appeal to donors for further, enhanced support that is commensurate with escalating humanitarian needs. This continuing support is essential for UNRWA to sustain life-saving assistance for Palestine refugees across Syria.
