|The Netherlands contributes EUR 13 million to UNRWA|

The Netherlands government has made a voluntary contribution of EUR 13 million (US$ 16.25 million) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for the year 2013. This contribution will go towards the assistance, protection and advocacy that UNRWA provides for some 5 million registered Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the occupied Palestinian territory.

The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Robert Watkins visited the Nahr el-Bard Palestine refugee camp in northern Lebanon, where he witnessed first-hand the living conditions of Palestine refugees and was briefed on the reconstruction efforts, which started in the camp in 2007.

|UNRWA reopens its installations in Gaza|

Based on the assurances UNRWA in Gaza received from different local parties, the Agency will reopen its installations across the Gaza Strip effective today, Tuesday 9 April. UNRWA was forced to close its distribution and relief offices last week due to ongoing demonstrations that affected its operations, a regrettable decision that hindered the Agency’s ability to provide much needed services and relief supplies to Palestine refugees in Gaza.
