Just hours after the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was announced, UNRWA returned to work in the war-scarred Gaza Strip. UNRWA schools, where some 10,000 people displaced by the violence took refuge, are now virtually empty as families returned to their homes to take stock of the damage.

The Israeli military operation has entered its sixth calendar day. Israeli Air Force strikes were supported by the Israeli navy during the night. The ongoing airstrikes have again targeted leaders of militant groups, infrastructure, the security apparatus, but increasingly residential buildings as well.
