UNRWA launches multimedia micro-site on UN Day

To mark United Nations Day UNRWA has launched a new multimedia micro-site that invites visitors into the lives of Palestine refugees. The site features a series of short films from UNRWA's five fields of operation.


Palestine refugee wins Aqaba Development Award

Palestine refugee Ala’edeen Al-Shalabi (32) runs a workshop for maintaining air conditioning units in Al-Shalaleh in Aqaba. A loan from UNRWA helped him buy new tools and remodel his workshop.


Swiss president visits Baqa’a refugee camp

A highlight of the visit of the Swiss President to Jordan included a field trip to Baqa’a refugee camp, which accommodates approximately 100,000 Palestine refugees and was established in 1968 following the Arab-Israeli war.

When the words 'hip-hop' spring to mind, one typically thinks of New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. However, during a two-day workshop in Jabal Al-Hussein camp in Jordan, 30 young refugees from around the country gave it an exciting and fresh take.


Soup kitchen provides lifeline for elderly refugees

Vulnerable older people in Jerash camp have found a home from home at a dedicated soup kitchen for elderly refugees. Every Saturday, around 60 women and 20 men meet to talk and eat their meals together.


UN Goes Green on World Environment Day

More than 2,000 environmentally friendly bags were distributed to shoppers in Amman, Irbid and Zarka as part of a UN campaign for World Environment Day. UNRWA joined UN agencies across Jordan at the launch on 3 June.


Success for UNRWA students in royal fitness awards

Winners of the King Abdullah II Award for Physical Fitness were honoured on 26 May during a special ceremony held at Al Hussein Sports City. More than 453,000 students aged between nine and 16, including 10,200 from 30 UNRWA schools, took part in the royal imitative.


Media campaign seeks to raise funds for UNRWA programmes

Refugee camp football team wins Jordan Cup

Al-Wihdat, a football team based at Amman New Camp refugee camp in Jordan, retained their Jordan Cup crown for a second year. The The players, who are all refugees, will now represent Jordan in the upcoming Asian Club Championship.


Poems of Palestine as Oud Player Abado Sings in Amman

Poems of Palestine echoed in the packed auditorium at Al-Hussein Cultural Centre in Amman at the end of May, as Palestine musician Marwan Abado opened a series of concerts being held in support of UNRWA’s education programme.
