UNRWA continues to respond to the needs of Palestine refugees in Syria, distributing 1.1bn Syrian Pounds of cash assistance to 401,000 beneficiaries. The Agency operates in an increasingly challenging operational environment where armed conflict and threats to the lives and safety of UNRWA staff and refugees are commonplace. The number of refugees who have fled Syria to neighbouring Lebanon and Jordan also continues to rise. |

U.S. Secretary of State today announced a new contribution of USD 8.4 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA, for the Agency’s programmes assisting refugees in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. The funds will help UNRWA respond to the critical needs of Palestine refugees affected or displaced by the Syrian conflict. |

The Lebanese Academy for Fine Arts (l’Alba) hosted on April 30, 2013 the screening of the documentary “Someone like Me…” produced within the framework of the “Dignity for All” campaign, launched in 2010 by UNRWA with the support of the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Office (ECHO). The campaign aims to enhance enhancing public knowledge and understanding on the plight of Palestine refugees in Lebanon, and to improve the mutual perceptions of the Lebanese and Palestinian communities through advocating for preserving human values for Palestine refugees living in Lebanon using a key message: “Every person has the right to live in dignity”. |
