We have been working hard altogether to reconstruct Nahr el Bared camp, and it has taken us a bit longer than we anticipated to reach our first milestone when, earlier this year, 369 new homes were finished and consigned to families who were finally able to return: approximately 1200 Palestinians have now done so.

On 19 April 2011, UNRWA handed over the newly reconstructed homes to the first group of families in the first package out of eight packages of Nahr el-Bared camp. More families will return in several groups over the coming weeks.

The Japanese Ambassador to Lebanon, H.E. Koichi Kawakami, and the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon, Salvatore Lombardo, signed today an exchange of notes formalizing a ¥201 million (US$ 2.4 million) donation to the reconstruction of Nahr el-Bared Palestine refugee camp in north Lebanon.

Strong as iron: UNRWA tackles anaemia in Lebanon

A new UNRWA campaign is tackling the high rate of iron deficiency (anaemia) among Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, where one-in-four pregnant Palestinian women suffer from the disorder, as do a high number of children under the age of three.
