The Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain has contributed USD 50,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The contribution will help UNRWA to deliver critical health, education, and humanitarian programmes for five million Palestine refugees in the region, through 700 schools, 137 primary health centres, and cash and food support for nearly 290,000 of the poorest refugees.
The Kingdom of Bahrain is a regular contributor to the Agency, having contributed USD 495,000 to the Agency’s core programmes since 2000. In addition, the Royal Charity Organisation of Bahrain is funding a library, health centre, and a school for Palestine refugees living in Gaza. The library and health centre are nearing completion, while Al Manama School is scheduled to open its doors to new students for the upcoming 2012-2013 academic year.
