The Spanish Committee of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWAce) has been awarded a top prize at the VI International Festival of Social Advertising – Publifestival – for its interactive “Count Me In” online campaign to raise awareness about Palestine refugee children in Gaza.

Accepting the award for “Best Interactive Campaign” in Barcelona on 15 June, UNRWAce Executive Director Raquel Martí acknowledged the work of the UN agency for inspiring the campaign: “This award recognises not only the creativity of the campaign, but the work performed by UNRWA with refugee children, who still live in a humanitarian crisis since Israel tightened its blockade on Gaza five years ago.”

The marketing campaign brought together 25 well-known Spanish figures to send a message of support for the children of Gaza, including Nobel Prize-winner Mario Vargas Llosa, filmmaker Isabel Coixet, actor Juan Diego Boto, and writers Almudena Grandes, Juan Goytisolo and Rosa Regas.

In addition to creating awareness about the plight of Gaza’s refugee children living in poverty, “Count Me In” encouraged visitors to www.yotambienmesumo.org to join a virtual “human chain” and show their support with a small donation. From link to link, the chain covered 1,000 kilometres.
