Since 1994, the international community has celebrated teachers worldwide every 5th October. This year, UNRWA celebrates World Teachers’ Day by highlighting the work of five teachers chosen from our 700 schools throughout the Middle East.
 
These outstanding educators are an inspiration to their colleagues and to the young Palestine refugees they serve.
 

Gaza teachers inspire students against the odds 


The Gaza Strip is a difficult place to get an education. But two UNRWA teachers there are setting an example for educators around the world.
 
 
 
 


Refugees struggle to find space for sport in Lebanon

 
In Lebanon, young Palestine refugees are barred from the public school system, limiting opportunities for education, as well as fun activities and sports.
 
One teacher decided to do something about it.
 
 


West Bank
teacher’s way with technology wows students

 
UNRWA teaches over 50,000 students in the West Bank, and is trying to improve the quality of its education programme there.  
 
Teacher Fatemah decided to use multimedia tools to inspire her students – raising their scores in the process.
 
 

 

Jordan teacher puts principles into action

 
While UNRWA students in Jordan are high-achievers, there are little resources for special-needs students.
 
One creative UNRWA teacher decided to do something about it.
