Publications

UNRWA’s publications cover many different areas, from socio-economic reports to appeals, newsletters, strategy documents and UN resolutions. This archive, dating back to 2000, contains useful information for researchers, partners and members of the public.

The first stages of rebuilding the camp and allowing displaced refugees to return homes are underway. A number of donors, including the Welfare Association, Cayan Investment and Development, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are supporting the project.

In mid-2007, during a conflict between the Lebanese Army and the Fatah Al-Islam group, Nahr el-Bared camp was pounded with heavy artillery and aerial bombardments, destroying or damaging 95 per cent of buildings. 27,000 Palestine refugees were displaced.

Burj Shemali: Halimeh is also a beneficiary of the UAERC shelter project. Nearly 100 years old, Halimeh lives in a one-room structure her husband built in the early 1950s. She will receive an upgraded room with a bathroom and kitchen through the project.

Burj Shemali camp (Tyre, Lebanon): The UAE Red Crescent is funding a two-year shelter project. This man has lived in a one-room shelter since the 1950s. It has no door, no floor, no windows, no running water or electricity, no kitchen and no bathroom.

Ein El Hillweh: Girls from UNRWA’s EU-funded Marj Ben Amer School. In 2009, the school parliament, part of UNRWA’s human rights education programme, demanded a new uniform that would allow pupils to be more active in sports. They got it.
