Shatila camp: One thing that is immediately apparent is that space is a precious commodity. Tall buildings are separated by tight alleys and residents use any available corner of sunlight, for example for hanging the laundry.

Lebanon’s Nahr el-Bared camp was almost completely destroyed during three months of fighting in 2007, displacing 27,000 refugees. The EU has contributed EUR 22.6 million to UNRWA for recovery efforts in Nahr el-Bared.
