UNRWA’s publications cover many different areas, from socio-economic reports to appeals, newsletters, strategy documents and UN resolutions. This archive, dating back to 2000, contains useful information for researchers, partners and members of the public.

Shatila camp: One thing that is immediately apparent is that space is a precious commodity. Tall buildings are separated by tight alleys and residents use any available corner of sunlight, for example for hanging the laundry.

Lebanon’s Nahr el-Bared camp was almost completely destroyed during three months of fighting in 2007, displacing 27,000 refugees. The EU has contributed EUR 22.6 million to UNRWA for recovery efforts in Nahr el-Bared.

UNRWA‘s main programmes in five fields include relief and social services. Through European Union (EU) support, the Agency is able to provide basic food supplies, emergency cash grants and adequate shelter to the most vulnerable refugees.

UNRWA runs eight double-shift schools, in four school buildings, providing free elementary education to the camp’s children.

In 1949, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA) was established in response to the needs of some 750,000 Palestine refugees. During its initial one-year mandate, UNRWA tried to alleviate the misery faced by the refugees.
