Publications

UNRWA’s publications cover many different areas, from socio-economic reports to appeals, newsletters, strategy documents and UN resolutions. This archive, dating back to 2000, contains useful information for researchers, partners and members of the public.

Shatila camp: One thing that is immediately apparent is that space is a precious commodity. Tall buildings are separated by tight alleys and residents use any available corner of sunlight, for example for hanging the laundry.

Children play among the new homes at Nahr el-Bared camp. The EU helped fund rubble removal and rebuilding, as well as food aid and rent subsidies for displaced refugees. It is also reviving the camp’s economy with business start-up loans.

Lebanon’s Nahr el-Bared camp was almost completely destroyed during three months of fighting in 2007, displacing 27,000 refugees. The EU has contributed EUR 22.6 million to UNRWA for recovery efforts in Nahr el-Bared.

In 1975, Lebanon descended into a 15-year civil war. The country became the arena where regional powers played out their conflicts. The war had devastating effects on the Palestine refugees living in the areas most directly affected by the fighting.
