The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization has announced yet another generous in-kind donation to UNRWA to help alleviate the suffering of the population of Gaza living under siege and intense fire since 27 December 2008.  Today is delivered a third ten-truck convoy, part of a larger 30-day campaign which aims at sending daily humanitarian assistance to needy people in the Gaza Strip. The donation includes basic food commodities, medicines and medical supplies, among other relief items.

Since the beginning of the Israeli operation in Gaza, the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization has worked closely with UNRWA and has been able to send more than 525 Tons of emergency relief commodities to help meet the most basic needs of the Gazan population, 70% of which are refugees under the care of UNRWA. “In these extremely difficult circumstances, the generosity of the Hashemite Charity Organization has helped to alleviate the sufferings of many Gazans affected by the unrelenting Israeli attacks” said Karen AbuZayd, the Commissioner-General.

UNRWA expresses its sincere thanks to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization and to its Secretary General Mohammad Majed El-Itan for this most valuable and efficient cooperation and urges the donors’ community both regionally and internationally to provide urgent funding for its Gaza Flash Appeal. This appeal was issued on 31 December to cope with the disastrous humanitarian consequences of the Israeli military attacks on Gaza.
