To mark International Women’s Day, women’s centres in seven camps across Lebanon worked with Lebanese and Palestinian NGOs to organise awareness-raising events. During the sessions, a short film was shown on the issue of violence against women, and debate and discussion was encouraged.
The short film, entitled Survivors, was a mixture of fiction and real-life testimonies of gender-based abuse. After the screening, a discussion was held on the issues it raised. Together, the attendees classified the types of violence portrayed, identified the victims, and argued about some of the incidents recounted by the women, such as their sufferings at police stations and courts.
Celebrations within the refugee community are also taking place on the 13th of March in Saida area and central Lebanon area, where children and young people are preparing sketches, drawings, songs and a photo exhibition expressing their perception of violence against women.
