Working for eighteen years at UNRWA, almost a third of the Agency's existence, Rasha, originally from Haifa and the mother of eight children, is very grateful for her job.
"If someone likes their work, they will keep doing much better," she shared with a big smile, before mentioning how important it was to have a supportive place to help five of her children graduate from university.
Under the patronage of the director of UNRWA operations in Jordan, Richard Cook, Rusha was one of the 60 staff honoured on 12 May at the Amman Training Centre.
60 years of UNRWA
This May was a particularly significant month, with International Labour Day celebrated around the world on 1 May, which this year also marked UNRWA’s 60th anniversary.
Cook said: "During the 60 years of UNRWA, the biggest asset for the Agency has been the staff. That is why today is very important for us to honour those staff that have done a great job during the last year."
Fida'a Araj, who has worked with UNRWA for seven years, is very satisfied to be working with and for her people. Originally from Lydd, she sees the award as an incentive, feels respected and with boosted esteem.
Example to everyone
Ahmed Majed, who has worked with the Agency since 1999 as a cleaner, feels continuously supported, although it is not always an easy job.
These workers, Cook said, have “lived up to the expectations and quality of staff we aspire to. They should be a real example to all of us, how to do our jobs, how to be committed to our jobs and how to serve Palestine refugees."
