In the early evening of 4 November 2012, UNRWA teacher Dr. Rehab Awadallah, 45, and her niece lost their lives as they were walking down Al-Quds Street in Yarmouk refugee camp, near the capital Damascus.
Rehab joined UNRWA in Amman in 2003 as a teacher at the Agency’s school for girls in Talbieh refugee camp, Jordan. In 2006, she transferred to Damascus to pursue her graduate studies. She obtained a master of arts in history in 2003 and a PhD in 2011 while serving as a teacher in the UNRWA school in Qaboun, northeast Damascus.
Rehab took great pride and pleasure in her work, earning the great respect of her colleagues. Her exceptional professionalism and competence will always be remembered.
A deeply compassionate woman who became firm friends with all those she worked with, she will be sorely missed. Her passing is a great loss to the Agency, as it is to her friends and colleagues.
