The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has opened the registration for the 2013 Gaza Marathon: a 42-kilometre run along the coastline of the Gaza Strip in April next year.
More than half of the population of Gaza is under the age of 18. For these 800,000 boys and girls, daily life is characterised by conflict, poverty, loss of hope, and little freedom of choice or movement.
After the recent conflict, UNRWA staff in Gaza teamed up with local communities in an effort to clean up damaged schools and help children get back to normal life. But UNRWA’s school counsellors warn that the trauma of conflict is harder to erase.
