The Israeli authorities have resumed home demolitions in the West Bank after a month-long suspension.

Demolitions by the Israeli authorities in the West Bank have escalated alarmingly. Figures released today by UNRWA show that 700 people were displaced in the first six months of 2011 (excluding July), compared with 594 in the whole of 2010.

Your story of Friday, “No to UNRWA school near Hamas base”, should have been headlined “No to UNRWA schools replacing former Hamas base”. The Israeli authorities are denying UNRWA permission to build two schools allegedly because the site of the proposed schools is next to a Hamas installation. This is completely false.

Shu'fat refugee camp
