15 June 2011 UNRWA schools in the northern West Bank organised a festival in Balata Basic School for Girls today to celebrate the achievements of the Saturday days for learning scheme, part of the UNRWA’s efforts to improve educational standards.
11 March 2011 Children at two UNRWA schools in the northern West Bank have organised special activities as part of the Agency’s "safe schools" initiative.
Civil society and political actors in Balata are especially strong. The first West Bank group to defend refugee rights, the Refugee Committee to Defend Refugee Rights, was established in Balata in early 1994.
