Wihdat refugee camp cleans up and honours its workers

It’s been a big few weeks in Wihdat refugee camp in Jordan, as UNRWA mounted an environmental awareness campaign and honoured local environmental heroes – the sanitation workers who strive to keep the camp clean every day.


Refugee camp football team wins Jordan Cup

Al-Wihdat, a football team based at Amman New Camp refugee camp in Jordan, retained their Jordan Cup crown for a second year. The The players, who are all refugees, will now represent Jordan in the upcoming Asian Club Championship.


German Ambassador Opens UNRWA School in Wihdat Camp

His Excellency Mr Joachim Heidorn, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, today inaugurated a girls’ school building in Wihdat Camp, constructed and equipped through a contribution of US$1.3m from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.


US Government Contributes $55 million to UNRWA

On June 10, at the bi-annual meeting in Amman of the Advisory Commission (AdCom) for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, the U.S. Head of Delegation to the AdCom, Liana Brooks-Rubin announced a U.S. Government contribution of $55.3 million to UNRWA's General Fund, bringing the total U.S. contribution to UNRWA thus far in 2009 to $154.5 million.


Amman New Camp refugee camp

Amman New Camp, known locally as Wihdat, was one of four camps set up after 1948 to accommodate Palestine refugees who left Palestine as a result of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.
