“I was a very shy person,” says Hiba, “but after attending the training sessions on preparedness for employability, which I used to attend after school hours in the UNRWA-affiliated women’s programme centre, I now know what I want, how I want it, and most importantly I am not shy anymore.”

Vulnerable older people in Jerash camp have found a home from home at a dedicated soup kitchen for elderly refugees. Every Saturday, around 60 women and 20 men meet to talk and eat their meals together.

Ahlaam is a Palestine refugee from Gaza living in Jerash Camp, Jordan. She lost her husband at a young age; having left school early, she held no qualifications, experience or employment skills. With no-one to care for her, Ahlaam wanted to lead an independent life.
