Qatar sends help to Gaza through UNRWA

The Government of Qatar has pledged $1 million to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) emergency assistance programme in the Gaza Strip. It has also chartered a cargo of food items and medical supplies for UNRWA to distribute in Gaza.

The contribution will support UNRWA’s distribution of daily food rations as well as non-food items such as blankets, mattresses, hygiene kits, and diapers to all IDPs in UNRWA shelters. It will also enable UNRWA health centres to provide quality health care through provision of medicines.

In excess of 1,800 people killed and 9,500 injured, many of them civilians. Up to 450,000 people displaced by the fighting or by instructions from the Israel Defence Forces. Of these, 270,000 were sheltered in 90 UNRWA schools throughout the Gaza Strip. This was over five times the number we had in UNRWA installations...

There are at least 187,000 displaced Palestinians in 90 UNRWA shelters. The numbers remain fluid, with displaced reportedly returning to the UNRWA shelters after having visited their homes to get personal items. Some return to the UNRWA shelters as they have nothing to eat, or come back if they find their homes...
