UNRWA and SDG 5 (Gender Equality): UNRWA has embedded gender equality and empowerment in its service delivery since starting operations in 1950 and continues to do so today. The Agency’s first Policy on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Girls was adopted in 2007. Since 2015, the Agency has also taken significant steps to mainstream gender and gender-based violence concerns into its emergency responses.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl calls for a total of US$ 1.2 billion to fund the Agency’s vital core services and life-saving humanitarian aid for 5.4 million Palestine refugees across the Middle East.
