The Cervantes Institute in Damascus has granted four Palestine refugee students generous scholarships to study Spanish. The undergraduate students at the University of Damascus, won full, three-year scholarships to study the language at the Institute.
A newly reconstructed health centre has been officially inaugurated in Shatila refugee camp under the patronage and presence of His Excellency Mr. Juan Carlos Gafo, the Spanish Ambassador to Lebanon, and of Mr. Salvatore Lombardo, Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon.
In response to UNRWA’s 2008 Emergency Appeal, the regional government of Balearic Islands in Spain contributed with EUR 150,000 to the Emergency Food Aid programme for Bedouin and other herding communities in the West Bank.
In response to UNRWA’s 2008 Emergency Appeal, the Spanish regional City Council of Zaragoza (capital of the autonomous community of Aragon) contributed with EUR 71,678 to UNRWA’s Emergency Environmental Health Programme in the West Bank.
The town of Quart de Poblet (Valencia) hosted on February 1st an Arts and Music Festival with the aim of raising funds in support of the population of Gaza. The event “València amb Gaza” was organised by the Palestinian Community in Valencia and UNRWA´s Spanish Committee.
