The Director of UNRWA in Syria, Michael Kingsley-Nyinah, has called the rehabilitation of an UNRWA school and community centre in Qabr Essit camp, Syria, “a symbol of the steadfast resilience of Palestinians”.

“[This achievement] also demonstrates UNRWA’s unwavering commitment to seize every available opportunity to restore its services in Syria to the benefit of Palestine refugees, wherever circumstances permit,” Mr. Kingsley-Nyinah said. “UNRWA will continue to appeal to the authorities to facilitate the return of Palestine refugees and the restoration of UNRWA services to other locations where calm has been restored, including Sbeineh and Husseiniyeh in Rif Damascus. We would like to replicate elsewhere what has been achieved in Qabr Essit.”

Mr. Kingsley-Nyinah visited the UNRWA installations in Qabr Seit camp recently to meet with staff, refugees and government officials. He noted that UNRWA staff have made substantial progress in making essential assistance available to Palestine refugees in Syria despite the huge demand for emergency support and severe funding shortfalls. The Director thanked staff for their dedication to duty, and reinforced his message to Palestine refugees to preserve their neutrality and to remain out of the conflict.
