Drawing Smiles at Summer Camp in Jordan

The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) summer-camp campaign is bringing big smiles to 207 Palestine refugee boys and girls in Jordan, including Palestine refugees from Syria. Through an extensive range of indoor and outdoor recreational activities, the summer camp will serve as psychosocial support to those children who came from Syria, helping them mitigate the impact of conflict trauma and positively adapt to their new environment. By participating in handicraft workshops, singing, drawing, ‘telematches’ and balloon-flying, the young participants also have the opportunity to improve their communication skills and self-expression while having fun.

The summer-camp campaign in Jordan has taken place thanks to the generous support of the European Union (EU) Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (ICsP). The Agency, with funding from the EU, has developed an Education in Emergencies comprehensive project, which ensures access to education through alternative modalities of learning in safe spaces; the implementation of catch-up programmes for children who missed school time due to the conflict; the provision of psychosocial and recreational activities; and specific security awareness for educational staff, drawing on the International Network of Education in Emergencies standards and tools.
