Education Within Reach: Dubai Cares Supports UNRWA Education in the oPt

For more than three years, the partnership between Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has contributed a total of US$ 10 million dollars for Palestine refugees in the Gaza Strip.

The “Supporting Access to Education and Mitigating Psychosocial Effects of Armed Conflict on the Palestine Refugee Student Population” was launched in 2014. Totalling US$ 3 million, the program provided 175, 809 children enrolled in 151 UNRWA primary schools weekly arts and sports classes. © 2019 UNRWA Photo by Khalil AdwanCreated around the themes of psychosocial counselling, the program provided psychosocial counsellors access to children identified to be in need of trauma care and support. © 2019 UNRWA Photo by Khalil AdwanIn 2016, Dubai Cares launched the ”Safeguarding the Rights to Education for Palestine Refugee Children in Gaza” program valued at US$ 3,103,824. © 2019 UNRWA Photo by Khalil AdwanAround 2,570 Palestine refugee children were granted access to quality education in Gaza. The contribution also covered the cost of learning materialls and supported the operational costs of several schools in Gaza and North governorates. © 2019 UNRWA Photo by Khalil AdwanAnother contribution by Dubai Cares worth US$ 3,840,000 was part of a US$ 15 million donation by the United Arab Emirates. Around 6,025 students enrolled in five UNRWA schools were guaranteed access to quality education for one school year. This includes the Zakat and Sadaqa campaigns.
