EU Summer Fun Days: Spreading Smiles across the West Bank in Times of Hardship
The 2018 EU Summer Fun Days were implemented in 30 UNRWA schools across the West Bank during the period of 9 to 16 July 2018. Thanks to generous funding from the European Union (EU), around 2,350 Palestine refugee children with a special focus on children with psychosocial needs were able to enjoy a variety of fun activities including sports, drama, dance, music, crafts and games.
The 2018 EU Fun Days marked the eighth consecutive year that UNRWA and the European Union have organized summer activities for Palestine refugee students in the West Bank. The European Union recognizes that Palestine refugee children, like all children, deserve the right to learn, play and thrive. EU Fun Days provide refugee students with a safe space to play, form new friendships, develop their talents, and learn more about the European Union and its support to Palestine refugees.
This year, UNRWA faces an unprecedented funding crisis, leaving the future of our students, staff, and the greater Palestine refugee community filled with uncertainty. Financial support and the success of activities like EU Fun Days that contribute to the laughter and well-being of our students are a testament to the bond between the EU and UNRWA, for Palestine refugees.
