Life, loss and dreams in an UNRWA Collective Centre in Gaza
05 February 2015
On 26 February, it will be six months since a ceasefire ended 50 days of conflict in Gaza. Throughout, UNRWA has been a stabilizing force in a challenging political and security context. But the Agency is now gravely concerned that if it does not receive urgently-required resources to help families repair their homes and provide on-going rental subsidies, large numbers may return to the UNRWA schools that are serving as Collective Centres. Almost 11,000 displaced Palestinians continue to shelter in these schools, struggling to maintain a sense of dignity in increasingly trying conditions. These photographs were taken in Gaza City at one of the 15 UNRWA schools still serving as a Collective Centre.
