Seeing the Impact of UNRWA Aid in the Eyes of Yarmouk Residents

In April, the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) received a collection of photos from a Yarmouk camp resident who documented reactions of community members upon receiving UNRWA assistance. The photos show the importance of providing continuous support to the 18,000 individuals living in Yarmouk. 

Unfortunately, the Agency’s efforts to meet the needs of the community are subject to regular delays and interruptions. In April, the Agency was authorized to do deliver aid on only eight days throughout the entire month, reaching 1,762 families. 

An UNRWA food parcel is sufficient to cover the minimum food needs of an average family for just ten days. Our deliveries in April have been woefully inadequate. The risk of malnutrition and related illness is growing rapidly. 

UNRWA acknowledges with gratitude the facilitation of the Syrian authorities in these limited distributions. However, the Agency remains disturbed that food distributions for desperate civilians are subject to frequent interruptions, without apparent justification. 

To ensure that continuous, substantial and safe humanitarian access is indefinitely ensured, UNRWA demands that all parties cease hostilities and seek to resolve their differences exclusively by peaceful means.
