UNRWA Transforms the Lives of Palestine Refugees with Disabilities
On 3 December, UNRWA joins the rest of the world in celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year’s global theme, ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies for all’, celebrates the important contribution persons with disabilities can make in their communities, when given equal opportunities. Removing barriers and facilitating inclusion can empower persons with disabilities to become agents of change in their own lives and communities, striving towards ending exclusion and promoting equality.
UNRWA is committed to ensuring that all of its programming and services are inclusive and that persons with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in and benefit from the Agency’s assistance.
This year for International Day of Persons with Disabilities UNRWA is celebrating the Palestine refugees with disabilities and the UNRWA colleagues who have worked together to translate the principles of disability inclusion into concrete initiatives and action. The Agency is determined to continue taking disability inclusion forward, to defend the rights of all Palestine refugees.
To mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities UNRWA has gathered the stories of Palestine refugees with disabilities living throughout the region. Here is what inclusion looks like for them.
