USA helps fund urgently-needed food for vulnerable refugees
30 October 2014
Generous funding from the United States Government has allowed UNRWA to provide regular food assistance to the 440,000 remaining Palestine refugees in Syria, who have been devastated by the ongoing conflict. Over half of the Palestine refugee population has been internally displaced, with their homes and livelihoods destroyed. As winter approaches, refugees face increased shelter, heating and clothing costs and UNRWA food aid assumes even greater importance in their lives.
United States funding is essential for UNRWA to continue delivering vital emergency assistance to the Palestine refugees of Syria. Since the start of the crisis in 2011, the United States has contributed $183.8 million to the UNRWA Emergency Appeal for Syria. This funding means UNRWA can address refugees’ needs in this emergency situation with speed and flexibility.
