Lebanese actors visit Burj Barajneh refugee camp

The syndicate of theatre, cinema, radio and television actors in Lebanon visited the Burj Barajneh Palestine refugee camp in Beirut, accompanied by representatives of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

This visit came in the framework of the activities undertaken under the "Dignity for All” project executed by UNRWA and funded by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO). This project seeks to promote awareness about the humanitarian situation of Palestine refugees in Lebanon and their right to live in dignity pending a fair and final solution to their plight.

Over 20 Lebanese actors took part in the visit, including Mr Jean Kassis, president of the theatre, cinema, radio and television actors syndicate in Lebanon, Mr Kamal Abou Shakra, Mr Nehme Badawi, Ms Rosy Al Khawli and others along with a delegation from the Palestinian Actors Union headed by Mr Mohammad Al Shouli, President of the Union. The actors visited UNRWA installations where they learnt about UNRWA services to refugees. They also visited the women’s programme centre and the active ageing house, and ended with a walking tour in the alleys of the camp.

Mr Jean Kassis said: "This is a good step to meet people in the Palestinian refugee camps and discover the reality of this community, which has rich culture and traditions, even though they live in bad conditions. Palestinians are good people and they come from a holy land, to which we all wish they will return one day. But as long as they are guests in Lebanon, we should make sure they live in dignity.”
