Amal's Story - Palestine refugee youth under administrative detention

Amal was a child when he was arrested and placed under administrative detention without any charges being brough. Israeli authorities have subsequently renewed his detention on two occasions. Amal spent the last year of childhood in prison - even taking his high school exams inside. He lived through the COVID-19 pandemic – and even contracted COVID-19 earlier this year – all the while living with a severe auto-immune condition that poses a serious risk to his life and health. Amal is now set for release in May, with the risk that Israeli authorities may extend his detention without charge for a third time.
