The Gaza Summer Fun Weeks, which were launched last week in the presence of the UNRWA Chief of Staff, Ben Majekodunmi and the Officer-in-Charge of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza, Ms .Jenifer Austin, aim to strengthen the emotional well-being of children, alleviate stress and promote positive coping mechanisms. Following the May 2021 hostilities in Gaza, a survey conducted by UNRWA found that the incidence of war-related traumata increased, leaving about 42 per cent of surveyed UNRWA first-grade children in Gaza, for example, in need of psychological support. Even nine months later, 35 per cent of these children are still suffering from reactions to trauma. During the SFWs, 120,000 children in Gaza will be able to access fun activities at 83 locations in Gaza throughout the month of July.
