Japan supports food assistance for Palestine refugees in Gaza
11 October 2016
On 9 October 2016, the Japanese Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority, Takeshi Okubo, and UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl signed an agreement for a JPY 420 million (approximately US$ 4 million) contribution from Japan to support food assistance in Gaza for the fifth year in a row. This contribution will benefit nearly 100,000 Palestine refugees by allowing for food distributions in 2017 and 2018 that will provide families with basic necessities, such as wheat flour, pulses and sunflower oil.
