20 April 2015

On 13 April 2015, UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl, with support from the UN Office of the Secretary General, visited civilians displaced from Yarmouk due to the recent escalation in violence in the area.

Mr Krähenbühl reiterated the Agency's commitment to providing essential assistance to Palestine refugees in Yarmouk and across Syria. “Once again, I am deeply moved by the dignity of Palestine refugees in the face of adversity. More than ever UNRWA will stand by Palestine refugees in this most critical time”, he said.

UNRWA’s is extremely concerned for the safety and protection of some 18,000 Palestinian and Syrian civilians, including 3,500 children, who remain inside Yarmouk. Without access, their most basic humanitarian needs will be left unmet.
