“I saw doctors with just a stethoscope and a tongue depressor, and that’s it. There is no electricity at all.” UNRWA Deputy Commissioner-General Natalie Boucly describes the spartan conditions at an UNRWA health center in the south during her visit to Gaza on 29 February. This health centre, only one of six remaining functioning UNRWA health centres in Gaza, provides medical services ranging from providing health care to newborns and infants to the treatment of non-communicable diseases. Boucly reports that there is an increase in respiratory illnesses and hepatitis A, mainly caused by the crowded and unsanitary living conditions.
