This World Social Work Day we honour staff on the front lines of the Agency’s response #forPalestineRefugees.
More than 2.2 million people in the Gaza Strip are now deprived of safe and reliable access to basic services.
Since the start of hostilities in Gaza, UNRWA’s social work team of 200 social workers and supervisors have responded to the dire needs of internally displaced people there. They have provided psychological first aid to 75,050 IDPs to help identify and mitigate protection risks, and connect them to services to enhance their psychological resilience.
Through our referral system, social workers have facilitated the provision of food and non-food items, winterization items and health services to 28,843 people, mostly children, women, and older people, in addition to 8,347 people with disabilities and war-injured who were provided with assistive devices.
