Protection in Lebanon in 2015

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

More than 5 million Palestine refugees, the largest refugee population in the world, are registered with UNRWA in five areas of operations in the Middle East, including over 504,000 registered in Lebanon.

According to an estimate from the American University of Beirut 'Socioeconomic Survey of Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon, 2015' between 260,000 and 280,000 of them currently reside in the country.

The current spread of conflicts in the region, and in particular the conflict in Syria, exposes them to one of the most widespread protection crises since their forced displacement in 1948.
