2017 West Bank Emergency Appeal Mid-Year Achievements

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

During the first half of 2017, with Emergency Appeal funding, UNRWA provided food vouchers to 7,694 food insecure refugee families in the West Bank and food parcels to 35,749 vulnerable Bedouin and herders. Further support was provided through the short-term Cash-for-Work programme, reaching around 23,870 food-insecure refugees (job holders and dependents).

In response to the increased violence and high number of demolitions that began in late 2015 and extended into 2016, UNRWA prioritized interventions to alleviate the emotional distress of affected communities. The Agency strengthened the provision of psychosocial support interventions, particularly to children and young adults, and stepped up advocacy efforts, calling for action to prevent a further escalation of violence.
