On 29 July 2023, armed clashes erupted in the Ein El Hilweh camp in south Lebanon. According to media reports, by 3 August, 13 people - including one person who was not involved in the fighting - had been killed and over 4,000 forced to flee their homes. Active fighting ceased on 3 August, but the situation remains extremely tense. As of 23 August, two UNRWA school compounds, which provide education for 5,900 children, remained occupied by armed actors and have been severely damaged.
